Tailor-made Morocco tours
– shaped by local knowledge

Our journeys are planned with care, time, and attention to place. As a locally rooted Morocco travel agency, we create private tours that follow the natural rhythm of the country — from the Sahara to the coast and the mountains.

Rather than rushing between highlights, we focus on meaningful routes, time in nature, and cultural encounters. Each trip is adapted to your pace, interests, and season, whether it includes desert trekking, 4×4 travel, or quieter days along the way.

Guest experiences with Desert Stories

Travelers who join our journeys often speak about the pace of travel, the care taken in planning, and the feeling of being well looked after throughout the trip. Many mention the balance between time spent in the desert, simple daily moments, and the comfort of having clear organization in the background.

Reviews also reflect the importance of local knowledge — guides who know the terrain, the rhythm of the desert, and how to adapt each journey to the season and group.

Where do our desert tours start?

All desert journeys start and end at Desert Camp Chraika, our base near M’Hamid El Ghizlane, where the road ends and the open desert begins.

From here, routes continue deeper into the Sahara — on foot with a camel caravan or by 4×4, depending on the journey and its pace.

Private transfers to the camp can be arranged from Marrakech, Agadir or Ouarzazate, allowing the journey to begin well before reaching the desert itself.

Desert Camp Chraika

A 20-minute walk from M’Hamid, the last settlement before the open desert, the camp is a natural starting point for journeys into the Sahara.

Celebrating important moments and life events in the Sahara

Evenings around the fire, a night under the stars, or a quiet walk through the dunes often matter more than elaborate settings. We take care of timing, place, and logistics, so the moment can unfold naturally. With Desert Stories travel agency, you create experiences that stay in your heart forever.

Who we are

Desert Stories – Morocco travel agency

Desert Stories is a Polish–Moroccan travel agency based in southern Morocco. It was founded by Agata and Mohamed, who have been living and working between Morocco and Europe for many years, organising journeys in the Sahara and across the country.

We organise tailor-made journeys across Morocco — from desert trekking and 4×4 routes to slower, cultural travel through different regions of the country. Our work is grounded in local knowledge, long-term presence in M’Hamid El Ghizlane, and an international approach to planning and communication.

With a locally based team and clear, thoughtful organisation, we create journeys that feel personal, well-paced, and accessible to travellers from around the world — without losing the depth and character of the places we visit.

Unique desert accommodation
- Desert Camp Chraika

Desert Camp Chraika is our base near M’Hamid El Ghizlane, on the edge of the Sahara. It’s a place created for travellers who want to experience the desert in a simple, comfortable, and well-organised way.

As a base camp, it allows journeys to start and end calmly, with time to settle in, prepare for the desert, and return in comfort after days spent on the dunes.

Life, food
and moments in the desert

Life at Desert Camp Chraika follows a simple desert rhythm.
Days unfold slowly, shaped by light, shared meals, and time spent together — without schedules or staged attractions. What happens here grows naturally out of the place and the people who pass through it.

Desert Camp Chraika

Accommodation at Desert Camp Chraika balances comfort and simplicity, designed for different travel styles and group sizes. Guests stay in warm clay-and-wood huts with private or shared bathrooms, or in a spacious desert house for families and small groups.

Moroccan cuisine

We cook meals on site using fresh ingredients from the local souk, following traditional recipes and sharing them together in a cosy, communal setting. Expect slow-cooked tagines, fresh bread, rich Moroccan breakfasts, and three-course dinners prepared slowly over time.

Desert experiences

Life at the camp opens space for everyday desert moments: evenings by the fire, baking bread in the sand, stargazing, or listening to Berber music when it happens naturally. These moments are part of everyday life in the desert.

FAQ — Morocco desert tours & travel information

Here you’ll find practical answers to the questions we hear most often before a journey to the Sahara. If something isn’t covered here, feel free to contact us — we’re always happy to clarify and help you prepare for your time in Morocco.

01

Are Desert Stories tours safe and fully legal?

Yes. All tours organised by Desert Stories comply with Moroccan and international travel regulations. We operate as a registered Polish–Moroccan travel agency and provide full travel insurance.
Our local guides and drivers know the desert well, ensuring a safe and well-organised journey.

02

Do you help with flights and travel arrangements?

Absolutely. We help with flight booking and travel planning to make your journey to Morocco smooth and well organised.
We can also arrange airport pick-up and a safe transfer to Desert Camp Chraika, where your desert experience begins — with excursions, accommodation, and Moroccan cuisine.
From arrival to departure, we take care of the details so you can simply enjoy the journey.

03

Is traveling to Morocco and the Sahara Desert safe?

Yes. Morocco is considered a safe and welcoming destination for travellers. Tourism plays an important role in the country, and safety in well-visited regions such as Marrakech, the Draa Valley, and M’Hamid is a priority.

We work with trusted local drivers and guides who know the region well. Our tours take place in familiar areas, at a calm pace, and each trip is covered by travel insurance through an EU-registered tour operator.

04

What currency should I bring to Morocco?

The local currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD). It cannot be purchased or exchanged outside Morocco, so it’s best to bring euros or US dollars and exchange them locally — at an exchange office, bank, or hotel. ATMs are available in most cities, including M’hamid, but cash is the preferred payment method, especially in smaller shops or markets. At our Desert Camp Chraika, as in many local restaurants and stores, you can pay in cash – either in euros or dirhams.

05

When is the best time to visit the Sahara Desert?

Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons to visit the Sahara, especially October, November, February, March, and April, when days are warm and ideal for exploring the desert.
Winter months bring clear skies and beautiful light, while nights in December and January can be cold, so warmer layers are important, as many desert accommodations are not heated.
In summer (June to August), we organise desert journeys only to selected luxury camps with air-conditioned rooms. Warm nights make sleeping under the stars a unique and surprisingly comfortable experience.

06

How to get to M’hamid?

M’Hamid El Ghizlane lies in southern Morocco, at the end of the paved road before the Sahara. Getting there is part of the journey — the route crosses the Atlas Mountains, palm-filled valleys, small towns, and desert plains. Morocco is well suited to road travel, and many travellers choose to treat the drive itself as a scenic road trip.

One option is a grand taxi — a shared long-distance taxi commonly used in Morocco. Grand taxis usually depart when full, follow fixed routes between towns, and offer a flexible, local way to travel. You can also hire a grand taxi privately for more comfort and control over stops.

Another popular choice is renting a car. Roads are generally in good condition, signage is clear, and the drive to M’Hamid via the Draa Valley is considered one of Morocco’s most scenic routes. Renting a car gives you full freedom to stop along the way and explore at your own pace.

Long-distance buses operated by companies such as CTM and Supratours connect major cities with Zagora. From there, a local taxi covers the final stretch to M’Hamid.

For the most comfortable and straightforward option, we can also arrange a private transfer from Marrakech, Agadir, or Ouarzazate, allowing you to relax and enjoy the landscapes while we take care of the logistics.

07

Can I safely park my car during the desert trip?

Yes. You can leave your car safely and free of charge at Desert Camp Chraika for the duration of your desert tour.

08

Is there electricity and internet access in the desert?

At Desert Camp Chraika and other fixed camps, electricity comes from solar panels. You can charge phones and cameras, and Wi-Fi is available in shared areas.

During desert tours, mobile network coverage is often available, though it can be intermittent and less reliable deeper in the desert. Most travellers use their own mobile data, with connectivity varying depending on location and conditions.

09

What is the stay like at Desert Camp Chraika?

Desert Camp Chraika is an intimate, family-run place nestled among the dunes near M’hamid.
It combines the simplicity of desert life with comfort and attention to detail. Guests stay in clay lodges with comfortable beds, clean linens, and access to bathrooms with hot water.
The camp follows sustainable tourism principles – powered by solar energy and supplied with water from a private well.
Wi-Fi is available in shared spaces, and bottled drinking water is provided.
We serve fresh, local meals every day, and evenings are spent by the fire, sipping tea and enjoying traditional music. The atmosphere is peaceful and family-like, perfect for true relaxation.

10

What should I pack for a desert trip?

Pack light, breathable clothing that covers your body, and plan to dress in layers. Days can be warm, while evenings and early mornings — especially in winter — are much cooler, so a warm layer is essential.

Comfortable walking shoes or sandals, a hat or scarf, and sunglasses are important year-round. Bring sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, a small flashlight, and a power bank. A small day backpack is very useful for walks and excursions — to carry water, sunscreen, and personal essentials. Simple, practical items work best in the desert.

11

Can I come with children?

Yes. We welcome families and adapt routes and activities to suit children of different ages.
The desert offers space, calm, and simple experiences that children enjoy — camel walks, campfires, open landscapes, and nights under the stars.

12

Can I pay by bank transfer or credit card?

Yes. You can pay securely by bank transfer to our EU-registered company or by credit card via a Stripe payment link.
We issue invoices in line with European regulations and clearly explain all payment options before booking.

13

Do I need vaccinations before traveling to Morocco?

No mandatory vaccinations are required to enter Morocco.
We recommend standard travel health precautions, such as routine vaccinations and personal medical advice if needed. Morocco is considered a safe and well-established travel destination.
